Project
The Northern Territory Government is advancing the Darwin Ship Lift Facility to position Darwin as a vibrant hub for maritime services industries.
Leveraging the Territory's strategic location in the Asia Pacific region, the 26m-wide and 103m-long ship lift will accommodate vessels up to 5,500 tonnes across various sectors including defence, energy, pearling, fishing, and coastal cruising.
Owned by the Northern Territory Government, the key project features include:
- Wet and dry berths on a shared basis
- Wet berths for in-water maintenance.
- Hard stand areas for ship repair and maintenance.
- Self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) units for efficient vessel movement within the facility.
- Supporting infrastructure such as an administration building, SPMT shed, and Blast and Paint Facility.
- Upgrades to East Arm utilities to bolster the ship lift and broader marine industry park development.
This project is designed to meet the ongoing demands of maritime sectors operating in northern waters. It also caters to the strategic needs of future clients including the Department of Defence and the Australian Border Force.
Pricing and access will be supervised by the independent Utilities Commission.
